FYI -- In concurrence with Tony (NOT that his opinions require any validation) -- here's a link to some photos of Healy Pass, on the Beara:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/italli...7645603932391/ They appear about three rows down on page 1. There are more, on Page 4, as well. Toward the bottom of Page 2 are pix taken of the drive between Kenmare and Killarney, and the Stone Circle located in the center of Kenmare. |
Because of the feedback I have received, I have thought about changing the itinerary a bit to not drive so much the first day. I would appreciate input:
Day 1: Arrive Dublin and stay in Ballymore Eustace (because I was able to find a nice B&B). I figured we could explore on the way and see what is around there. Suggestions for what is there? Day 2: Blarney overnight and Blarney Castle with Cahir and Rock of Cashel on the way. Day 3: Head to Kenmare via Mizen Head Peninsula and maybe Beara Peninsula? Too much for a day or OK? Overnight Kenmare. Day 4: Explore Killarney area and overnight in Kenmare. Day 5: Head up to Cliffs of Moher? Stay overnight somewhere in Doolin? Day 6: Explore around Galway or other scenic areas by Cliffs of Moher? Not sure what is best. Day 7: head to Dublin and drop car off and spend the night in Dublin Day 7 and 8. Day 9: home |
One more try -- advice please!
Day 1 - Overnight in Cashel (Rock of Cashil, Hoare Abbey) Day 2 - Overnight in Blarney (Cahir Castle,Blarney Castle, Cobh?) Day 3 - Mizen Head Peninsula, maybe some of Beara, overnight in Kenmare. Day 4 - Beara Peninsula, overnight in Kenmare. (doing these two instead of ROK and Dingle). Day 5 - Killarney National Park area and head north and stay in Listowel, Ballybunion, or Kilrush (after taking ferry). Suggestions? Day 6 - Cliffs of Moher and area and overnight in Ballyvaughn. Day 7 - Head to Dublin, drop off car and explore in the evening. Overnight Croke Park. Day 8 - Dublin and overnight in Croke Park. Day 9 - Airport and home Input? Please? Day 6 |
Not much in Ballybunnion bar the Golf Club, nice as the location is. Listowel always gets my vote but if you do cross the Shannon Kilkee rather than Kilrush. As I have probably indicated Kinvara is my personal preference over Ballyvaughan.
Other than that it looks fine. |
Tony--
Thank you! Do you think it is better to cross the Shannon at the end Day 5 or at the beginning of Day 6? Only picked Ballybunnion and Listowel because of close proximity to the ferry. Any recommendations for a place to stay in Kilkee? And I will look at Kinvara instead of Ballyvaughan. Thank you |
http://www.bayviewkilkee.com/ is a good central option as is http://watersedge.westclare.net/

IMHO, The Killarney National Park is the nicest chunk of the ROK. Gap of Dunloe is beautiful - I've walked it and done the touristy pony trap part :)

GreenDragon, I read your old posts last night and liked your FB page. Your trips sound fantastic and you are a very talented photographer. Have you been down to the Mizen Head station (I'm not sure which peninsula that is). We are wondering if that is worth a drive because it looks beautiful. There is so much to do in so little time and I am cutting things left and right. I will definitely be back!
|
Oh, thank you! I've not made it down to Mizen Head, yet, more's the pity. It is definitely on my list, though! I'm sure Tony2Phones has been there, though.

You have Mizen down for Day 3? Been a long time since I was down there, looks like it's been all done up for the Wild Atlantic Way photo shoots. |
Yes, we decided to do that on our way to Kenmare on Day 3. I'm thinking of making a day of it and going along the coast. THoughts?
Also, if we were only to do one or two things in Cork for half a day, what would anyone suggest? |
The English Market in Cork - an indoor food hall. Neat place!
