Ireland - three weeks, what do you think
My wife and I are arriving in Dublin on Sept 30 and departing on Oct 20. Our current itinerary is:
Day 1-3 Dublin Day 4-5 Belfast Day 5-6 Portrush (via the coast, stop at Giants Causeway, do the rope bridge, Bushmills) Day 7 Derry Day 8 Westport (this is really just a base to see Connemara) Day 9 -10 Galway (to see the Burren, and the castle and the the cliffs on way to Dingle) Day 11-12 Dingle (day 12 will be to do the Ring of Kerry) Day 13 Kenmare (follow coast to Kinsale) Day 14 - 15 Kinsale (day trip to Cork) Day 16-17 Waterford Day 18-19 Dublin Day 20 fly back home Any thoughts on this itinerary would be most appreciated. The primary concerns are: 1. 2 nights in Portrush - too many? 2. Galway to Dingle - is this too long of a day if we go via the Cliffs Moher and stop to see Dunguaire? Are there other areas of concerns you see?? Thanks in advance on any and all comments |
Maybe lose a day Portrush/Derry and dedicate a second night to Westport. One night there gives you very little time to explore the area.
You can use your day moving between Dingle and Kenmare to do the Ring of Kerry, freeing up a day for Slea Head Drive. |
I would skip Waterford and think two nights in Portrush will be awesome. Loved that area. One more night in Westport. Tons to do there.
I would see a little of Wicklow on your way back to Dublin, very pretty. Glad you are giving yourself some time in Dublin. |
Thanks to you both.
Macross - are you suggesting that rather than stay in Waterford we would be better served to continue on via the coast and stay in that area rather than Waterford? That is should we add an additional night to Westport and then perhaps in the Arklow area and not go into Waterford? Many thanks |
Yes, add a night to Westport. You can rent bikes and bike to Achill Island one day, great night life.
Kinsale could be your day trip from Cork or Cobh. I would take the day to leisurely drive back to Dublin. You could even spend the night outside of Dublin like in Dún Laoghaire, Dalkey or Arklow. |
