Ireland the second time around
 

Over 15 years ago, I posted my first question on Fodors about a trip to Ireland with my young children. Throughout the years I have sought advice and hopefully have also helped a few along the way. I am coming back to you all as I plan another trip to Ireland.

My oldest son is spending his Fall semester at Trinity and we plan to visit him in November. We will spend 4 days in Dublin with him. I would love recommendations for either an airbnb or a bed and breakfast. My son is living in the Docklands so we would love to be close to him if possible or somewhere between the Docklands and Trinity.

We plan to spend two days in Northern Ireland visiting the Giant Causeway and Belfast. Anywhere else that is a not to be missed sight? We also would love suggestions for a good hotel in Belfast that is well located. And we would like to do a black cab tour-- if you can recommend a company or individual for this, we would appreciate it.

Finally we have three days at the end of our trip to go somewhere else (note: we will be back in Dublin at this point). On our first trip we visited Kilkenny, Dingle and CLifden. We spent over a week in Clifden so we saw a lot in that area. We have thought also about going to Galway as we spent only a half of a day there when we were in Clifden. Would that be a good place to go for three days? I remember that it was a very college oriented town so thinking that my older boys may enjoy that aspect. Where else would you suggest?

I did cabtoursni.com They were one of the cabs that took Anthony Bourdain, One of their driver's post on Trip advisor NI fourms. I also did a tour with a protestant cab driver and was very different. He was ok with me asking a lot of questions. See if you can find that episode online. Very good. We took a McComb's Game of throne tours once and loved it. It was their smaller bus so was able to drive into Ballintoy harbour.

I almost booked a place by the Docklands, let me see if I can find it. We are back on Cow's lane across from Dublin Castle next trip but not where you want to stay.

Macross, Thank you for your feedback. I will check out that episode of Anthony Bourdain and also contact the black cab company that you suggested. The apartment looks very nice but we are four (and there isn't room at my son's apartment for any of us to sleep there) and it looks like it can only handle three :(. A shame as it is available during the time frame we will be there.

If you look at the map you will see you are close to the ferry company where they take you to Rossaveal to catch the ferry to Inishmor. It is a bigger ferry so can take the rougher seas.

I have made a reservation for the Galway portion of our trip at a B & B there which looks perfect. And still looking at our options for Northern Ireland.

Any recommendations for good restaurants in the areas we will visit? Or unusual and fun things to do?
