Ah... Now you have me interested. Old stone circle, I mean. We are back and forth to Ardara and.. please, where is it?
And the tower was there in 2002; maybe it was very, very foggy that day :)

Yes, it would be unlikely that the tower was built since :-)

We followed a road that was just basically across from the road to St. John's Point. I think it is slightly east. I take it back, it was actually a portal tomb. It's just a small road, running north off the N56.

By the way, there is also a beuatiful tower (again, not internally accessible) north of Tralee on the R556. http://www.roundtowers.org/rattoo/index1.htm

It's in quite good shape. This one is way off the road so since it isn't obvious, I found it easily :-)

Obviously no-one has heard of Reginalds Tower in Waterford! It is open to visitors and has a 45-60min tour. You can't actually climb to the top, can you imagine what the insurance cost would be?! During the tour you climb a few flight of spiral staircases(can't remember for sure how many floors you get to see, it's been many many years since I visited). Anyone visiting the Crystal factory should try to visit Reginalds Tower too.

Alot of tourist also take a walking tour around the old historic city walls, in sunny weather this would be great. Think a guy called Jack Burchall runs these tours (I'm sure hoteliers would have contact details).

ah, thank you. Yes we know that one.. We were at Raphoe this week, on the way back from a shopping trip to Strabane, and visited the Beltony Stone circle there. You have to walk up a narrow, tree-lined lane, with lambs peeping through the ancient hedges; the lane is loned with wild violets. Never saw so many as there.

Wish we could be there when you round that corner and see the Bruckless Tower!!lol!

I'll let you know when I'm there. The Irish have found lots of reasons to laugh at me over the years. My pronunciation of Youghal, my wife running the boat aground on the Shannon ... I could go on and on ...

Now you're making me want to book a flight.

And WHY is that a BAD thing????
I leave in six weeks, I'll try to snap a pix for you. Lord knows, I've been the cause/butt of MUCH amusement throughout Ireland!

Hey, I am not Irish..No idea how you pronounce Youghal either...I mispronounce place names all the time. Ardara = Ard RA .....they enjoy a good laugh though...
