Ireland road trip 2016- Tips
My two friends and I are in the midst of planning a road trip around Ireland for 8 days from the 30th of May to the 7th of June. We are taking the ferry with our car and arriving into and departing from Dublin.
This is our plan to start with: 2 nights in Dublin 1 night in County Wicklow 2 nights in Kinsale --We are then hoping to drive from Kinsale and spend a couple of nights in Galway, to then drive back to Dublin. However I wanted to see if there are any tips to possibly break up the trip from Kinsale to Galway as I gather this is a very long car journey. Further, is it wise to spend the last night in Dublin? We are all experienced drivers and a 4 hour journey driving has become quite common for us, we will further all be sharing the driving so the long journeys proposed should not be too bad/? Just looking for some advice/ tips.... Thanks in advance |
The transfer from Kinsale to Galway is quite manageable because it is mostly on good roads. You can accomplish it comfortably within 4.5 hours.
Can you say why you are interested in Wicklow, Kinsale, and Galway? There might be other options that are more convenient. |
The choices of Wicklow, Kinsale and Galway are kind of an amalgamation of the group's preferences. I have been on a road trip in Ireland before and loved Kinsale so suggested Kinsale, while Wicklow was high on the list my friends.
We didn't want to miss out on Galway either but are open to other suggestions? What would you recommend? |
Well, you are targeting three places that I like, so I'm not going to suggest that they are bad choices. But it depends on what you want to see and do. My inference is that you want scenery as a major component of your trip. And you'll certainly get it at your chosen target areas.
The efficient route from Kinsale to Galway is not very scenic. How would you feel about taking a meandering route that is more attractive? Say 5-6 hours plus some stops, making it into a full day trip? |
That sounds perfect! Yes i've heard Kinsale to Galway isn't scenic and we were hoping to make a few stops but are unsure as to where.
And yes we are going for scenery! Do you have any recommendations for traditional Irish music in the locations we are planning? |
Save Galway for next time and use Killarney as a base then head back to Dublin from Limerick on the M7
