Ireland Package Deals
 

Has anyone ever taken one of those all-inclusive self-drive deals to Ireland. It includes rt air from NY, vouchers for B&B's nd a rental car for $500. <BR>I've seen them offered on go-today.com and a few other websites. <BR>We're thinking of taking on in october but would like to know if anyone has gone on one and can give feedback.<BR>Thanks

Arron yes i took this same tour from scepter tours mine was in January for $399.00 and it was for real the only other option they offered over the price is if you want to up grade for more B@B choices ( 2500 )for $30.00 and for an extra day in a hotel the last night for $7.00 you may want to up grade to a automatic transmission car from standurd remember you have to shif with your left hand. My trip with taxes and up grade $530.00 not bad less than $100 a day . We just had to take advbantage of that deal and the trip was great ! We flew from JFK to Shannon and then Dublin to JFK . It was well worth it no hidden charges ! Only additional charge that is optional if you want the walk away car insurance or not . Belive it or not the weather was good in January only bad thing was amount of day light about 8 hours .But that left a lot of time to sample the pubs

We did it several years ago and was pleased. I agree with the post above, it may be worth it to upgrade to an automatic - we had a standard, and while drivable it is one more thing to worry about. But be sure to run the numbers as it may be much cheaper to do it own your on. <BR><BR>How many days is the $500 for? And how many people are going?

We did the scepter tour the first time, but if you do the math, you can make out better by purchasing airfare at a good price, renting your car (we did from Dan Doolan), and paying for B&B's as you go. A lot of the nicer ones even take credit cards. <BR><BR>We did it on our own the second time -- you have more options. The tour vouchers were only good for B&B's. If you wanted to stay at a Farmhouse B&B, or a castle, or a hotel one night, you couldn't use the voucher that was pre-paid. You lose. Additionally, there are some very nice B&B's that don't take the vouchers at all. <BR><BR>We went last May, and the most expensive B&B for my wife and me was $50.00 per night.

We did this tour in March and enjoyed it very much. Whatever you do, if going to Dublin, reserve your B&B before you leave from home as hardly any B&B accepts them anymore. It took me two wks to find one that would accept the vouchers. Also, I encourage you to upgrade to the automatic car. We did and was so glad! Also, make sure you have 100% insurance coverage on the car as you are responible for ANY damage. We ended up paying for a cracked windshield as our insurance was $500. deductable. Have a great time!

There will be four of us traveling and the package says six nights.

We used go-today in Oct. 2000 and again in Nov. 2001. It was to the UK as opposed to Ireland, but we found their fly/drive deal better than any combo we could find on our own (note: we didn't do the B&B part). We calculate we saved about $1,000 by booking the air/car combo thru them. We flew USAirways both times. A very good experience overall. I'd definitely use them again.

And I've found that gotoday.com usually costs about $500-$800 MORE than what I can put together on my own.
