Adare has really pretty thatched roof buildings. Even a 10 minute stop for pictures will be worth it. There is also a nice castle on the river as you enter Adare. It wasn't open when we passed by, but I got some nice pictures.

You don't have a lot of time, but if you are driving through the Burren, here is a bit more info on 2 excellent stops in the Burren from my trip report:

Caherconnell ring fort - north of Lemanagh Castle on Route R480 - excellent movie giving an overview of the area of the Burren and the history of the ring fort. We walked around the grounds and explored the interior of the fort.

Poulnabrone Portal Tomb, just north of the ring fort on R480 - this is one of the famous pictures of the Burren with the huge stones holding up a flat rock overhead. Don't miss this stop. It's free. Best of all, this is where we first encountered the limestone outcroppings with the various wildflowers growing in the crevices. It was great just walking over the rock formations. This stop was exactly what we pictured when we thought of the Burren. If you only have time for one stop, this is the one my family would choose.

kwren nailed it on what to see on the scenic R480. likewise on the photo op in Adare.

So it's Galway to Ballyvaughan, south to the scenic R480.Pass the turnoff to Aillwee Cave, then Gleninsheen Wedge Tomb, The Poulnabrone(a burial place for 30 people with their tools, utensils, and jewellery dating from 2500BC), Catherconnell Stone Fort, and then to Leamaneh Castle.West to Kilfenora(Crosses and the Burren Display Center. Get to the Cliffs of Moher via R476 to Lisdoonvarna, R478 southwest to the Cliffs passing the turnoff to Doolin..

After Cliffs of Moher on to Killarney(3 hr drive with no stops) with possible stops at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. To those of us from SoCal it is Knotts Berry Farm with a pub and real Castle. What is fun is the twice nightly Medieval Banquet. Next Adare, the village with thatched roof cottages with colorful doors. On to Killarney.

After check in at your Hotel it is dinner and Pub music.

Wake up in Killarney, an Irish breakfast, it is horse time, first by cart, then horseback riding. Afternoon Mucross House and Killarney National Park. Take a jaunting cart from the parking lot to the house.More pub music tonight.

The next day. The 'Bucket List" says Ring of Kerry. If completed a 100+ mile drive. As in the film Midnight Express the bad machines go counterclockwise, the good machines go clockwise.

The locals say do Healy Pass and the Beara Peninsula instead of ROK. What does the Driver say? Gap of Dunloe is a possibility if not traveled yesterday.Any reservations in Cork today? Enjoy whatever you decide.
