Ireland Itinerary Help!!!
Newlyweds spending 8 days 7 nights in Ireland in early October...we are in desperate need of help with our itinerary. We are flying into Dublin and departing out of Shannon. Would like to spend a fair amount of time in the Galway/Co. Clare area. Please help with our itinerary!! Should we stay two nights in Dublin? Visit Cork? Visit Killarny? Visit Aran Islands? Please help...trip is fastly approaching! --Thanks --DeltaCrew

It really depends on what you like doing.

Hiking, walking along the cliffs, seeing Ireland from 100 years ago, sheep, and stone walls? Spend more of your time in the west, such as Aran Islands, County Clare, Dingle, etc.

Like nightlife, shopping, and great architecture/history? Spend more time in Dublin.

On our trip, we did the opposite run, but for two weeks. We stayed 4 nights in Ennis, 4 nights in Killarney, 3 nights in Kilkenny, and 4 in Dublin. We found we loved the west and Kilkenny, but could have skipped Dublin -- the bustle was too much after the peace of the countryside.

Hope this helps!!! If you would like to read my trip report (it's long, but detailed, with pics!) it's here:

razrbk1999, GreenDragon makes a good point, what do you like to do? However I will be happy to plan your trip for you, here you go:

2 nights: Dublin (or nearby suburb such as Malahide)

1 NIGHT: Galway

3 NIGHTS: small town in County Clare; Ballyvaughan or Kilfenora; do day-trips to Cliffs of Moher and The Burren or Aran Islands.

1 NIGHT: sleep near Shannon airport...maybe in Bunratty and consider if you would like to see bunratty castle and folk park or do the medieval banquet if that is your kind of thing (we liked the smaller medieval banquet in Kinvara near County Galway).

Have fun!

Thank you...very helpful! We really want to experience true Irish culture; therfore we thought it was best to spend more time on the West. Do you think that we will need two nights in Dublin. Are there a lot of things to do/see?

Hi razrbk1999,
We love Dublin, but a day does not do it justice. I would leave it for another trip. This is what I would suggest:
Day 1--Fly into Dublin. Overnight.
Day 2,3--Galway 2 nights. Could do the Connemara, or fly to Inismore (Largest Aran Island)
Day 4,5--Ballyvaughn. Do the Cliffs of Moher, Loop Head Drive, Burren
Day 6,7--Dingle. Slea Head Drive and explore the area.
Day 8--Bunratty. Fly out.

All this is very flexible. Hope I have the time frame correct.

So much to see, so little time. But you will certainly see enough to start planning your next Ireland trip going home on the plane!

Have a wonderful time!

Your updated itinerary sounds great!

Did you know Cong is where they filmed 'The Quiet Man'? :)

Have lunch or dinner at Monk's in Ballyvaughn - outside if you can (it may be too cold!). The view of the bay is fabulous. Driving the coast road west of there all the way down to Doolin was one of the highlights of our trip - we kept stopping and exploring!

Rusheen Lodge in Ballyvaughan would be another good place to stay. See

Many Fodorites recommend staying at the Bunratty Lodge before flying out of Shannon. See

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 08:21 AM.
