If you're thinking of going to Ireland, I'd suggest reading an up-to-date guide book, or doing some research on the web.

The Republic of Ireland is on the euro.
Northern Ireland, which is still part of the UK, is on the pound.
So if you plan to go to Belfast or somewhere like the Devil's Causeway, those places are in Northern Ireland.

Dublin, Sligo, Gallway, Tralee, Shannon, Limerick, Waterford, Ennis, Kilkenny, etc. are all in the nation of Ireland and use the euro as the daily currency.

the best way of getting money is to use your ATM card in the ubiquitous ATM machines - check with your local bank, tell them you going to Ireland - you get the finest rate of exchange with the least charges - usually only what your local bank charges for ATM use - you need a 4-digit PIN number.

Thank you. I didn't realize that Northern Ireland is on the lb. but it makes sense. Yes, I always use ATMs for cash when traveling!
