Ireland - Int'l DL needed??

I have had conflicting advice about whether or not an international driver's license is needed in Ireland. Help - only one week to go!!

Thanks,
Alison

Alison, if your current valid drivers license is in English, you don't need the International Permit, which is actually just a translation of your license into a number of other languages so that local police can read your vitals.

Thanks Clifton,
My license is in "Canadian". I guess that will work!

Clifton has it exactly right. No International Driver's Permit needed in Ireland. In case you ever have the same question about France: no Internation Driver's Permit is needed in France either. (as of July 2004) I don't know why France does not require it but they don't. I love France. And if you care about Italy; they do require it. I love France.

Alison, mine is Canadian too and I've driven in Ireland on 5 different trips and never needed an international DL.
Have fun.
