Ireland in October
So this happened today. Our Road Scholar adventure, a week in Ireland, was cancelled due to low enrollment. We cannot take them up on their offer for dates earlier in the month because we have built plans around that week, like a flat in London for a week, and airplane tickets that take us to London and home from Dublin. Right now I am thinking we can do this week on our own, and so I am looking for ideas and suggestions. We can rent a car and do some driving. We were going to meet the RS group in Cork, but we had not yet booked that flight, and so we can fly anywhere from London. We do want to spend a few days of the week in Dublin, and would probably end there, dropping the car. We fly home from Dublin on October 24. Thanks in advance for any itinerary suggestions, travel tips, etc. |

Sure you can. :) I'd fly either to Cork or Shannon and spend time on the scenic west or SW coast, then drive across to DUB. Drop the car there, take public transport into Dublin and spend the last couple of days in the city, fly home from there. |
. . . meant to add -- Oct is not a busy month so you could even wing it re accommodations/route and go where the weather leads you.

Jurys Christchurch is in a great location. We like Harding, Buswells and Maldron on Smithfield Sq. I just stay away from O'Connell St.

€250 or $250? But with € pretty low, not really that much of a difference . . .
Jury's Inn Parnell St would be a good choice, but IF it fits in your budget, I might try Buswells (their rates re very date specific) |
Thank you. I am thinking we could fly into Cork, spend 4 days driving around towards Shannon, then across to Dublin, drop car, for the last 3 nights. Any suggestions for two places, two nights each, to stop and do day trips? |

I recently took a Vagabond tour of Ireland, and as someone who has always been against bus tours, I had an excellent experience with this company. They take a maximum of 15 people, it's an Irish company which only has trips in Ireland, there are many daily options and the schedule is a bit flexible. Breakfast is included but other meals are wherever you want to eat. I was so happy not to worry about driving on those very narrow twisting roads. The vans they use can really get off the beaten track.
