Ireland in Dec/Jan

I am thinking of going to Ireland in late December or mid January. I've been in the summer a few times and want to take advantage of the cheaper airfares. I'll be staying in Dublin. What do people recommend? I welcome any suggestions or comments.

I went to Ireland in January 2001 and had a great time. It was a little chilly at times, but we were amazed that we didn't really even have rain for 8 days. One night we got caught in some sleet, but it was a quick walk from our hotel to the pub down the street. There were no crowds to deal with and I was able to take advantage of some good January sales. Many of the little towns still had their holiday decorations up, so it was pretty to see the streets all decorated.

From there I went to Scotland for a week and enjoyed having the place to myself. I even managed to have my own private tour of Holyroad Palace in Edinburgh, since no one else showed up that afternoon.

I say go for it - enjoy the off season and just pack a scarf. Have fun!

I was in dingle in early Feb., had a great time and the weather was not that bad. It was nice in the afternoon with rain in the morning (48-54). No crowds and real good fares. I would go .

Does it never snow in Ireland in the winter?

It snows here sometimes but usually it's just rain, rain and a bit more rain- just like today's weather here in Dublin..
