Ireland first night

Sorry if this is a repost but I can't find the original.

We arrive in Shannon on 6/27 - we have reservations on Inishmore for 6/28. We want to stay in Galway the first night, any recommendations? We were thinking of the Salthill area. Also on 6/29 we wanted to head toward the Conemarra region, should we stay over or day trip?
Thanks for you help.

Salthill is a nice area, as long as you don't care about not being too close to the center of Galway. (You might just want to get to bed early on your first night.) I like to be within easy walking distance of downtown and stay at 4 Seasons B&B on College Rd.

Connemara is one of my favorite parts of Ireland, so I've got an agenda and I'd stay overnight. Roundstone is my favorite Connemara town. Clifden is larger and also in a beautiful area.

Ok, you are going from Shannon to Galway upon arrival and will spend the first night in Galway and then the 2nd night on Inishmor. Sounds Ok. If you get the ferry back on the morning of the 3rd day I think Roundstone is a good choice. I'll be there the first weekend in July for the Art festival. From there to Clifden, Park is a short hop for aday of walking around. Hint(Inishbofen is not worth a day in my opinion). On Inishmor upon arrival let the mini buses get out then hire a bicycle at the dock and peddle around. Did that four years ago and will do it again. Do not miss the fort. Hve fun

Salthill is good! If you get an early check-in and take a nap, you may be up for a stroll (less than 1-km) past the Claddagh port to Galway's Pedestrian - only area (or you could catch a City bus to Eyre (aka John F. Kennedy) Sq.

If you have a rental car, rather than going into Galway for the Aran Islands ferry, drive west to Ross a'Veal. You should be all right leaving your car at the boat dock.

Galway is a great town full of life and activity with a great pedestrian mall in the center. Check out Jurys Inn or Brennans Yard for relatively inexpensive, downtown accomodations. You can do Connemara while based in Galway, but I also would recommend that you stay in Roundstone or even Clifden. They are charming.

I suggest staying your first night at Doolin, within striking distance of the Cliffs of Moher, the Burrens, the Doolin pubs and the Aran Islands.
