Ireland- east/suggestions?
We will be spending 2 weeks in Ireland in July. We've been before but always concentrated our trip in the west-Connemara, Ennis, Cliffs& other County Clare areas. This time we will be in the east of the country along with a visit north to Giant's Causeway. I just don't know this area well enough to even find an area to base our stay. We want to rent a self catering for a week at least. We love the coast and countryside, any recommendations for this side of the country? Just a day or 2 in Dublin. Also weill be playing some golf. Thanks

Hi Steph,
I live in N Ireland and love the East Coast (nicer that the west coast IMHO!!) Songdoc's report (above link)is excellent, do read it. The Royal Portrush is one of the best courses in Ireland and close to the Giant's Causeway. www.royalportrushgolfclub.com Portstewart is also good www.portstewartgc.co.uk However, the best is on the way from Dublin to Giant's Causeway at Newcastle Royal County Down www.royalcountydown.org. Other good courses are Malone and Belvoir in Belfast. www.belvoirparkgolfclub.com www.malonegolfclub.co.uk Royal Belfast at Culta is the oldest in Ireland and has a beautiful club house but it is very stuffy and snobby, strict dress code and probably not very welcoming to visitors. Worth a look all the same. www.royalbelfast.com Top 10 in NI www.irishgolf.com/north.html Do let me know if I can be of any further help. Helen |
I have some ideas for Northern Ireland, where to stay in the Republic on the east? We will rent a self catering for a week, any town suggestions?

Hi Steph
Wexford is a nice little county to stay on the East coast of Ireland, and the weather in Wexford is usually good in the Summer, there are lovely little sea-side places to stay. Hope the following might be of help to you. http://www.bookcottages.com/wexford-3.htm I have to agree with Cambe's choice of golf courses you wont find better than Royal Portrush. if i can help in any give me a holler.
