Ireland-Dublin
Going to be staying in Dublin for a few days in June 2014. What are some must do/must see things in the area?

Depends on your interests.. lots of options in and around Dublin itself.
|
Book of Kells at Trinity
Dublin Castle Rising historic sights Multiple fascinating museums Great theater (look for locals: Wilde, Shaw, etc) Outside: Newgrange stone age site (you can actually enter) |
Pub Crawl. It's a must!!!
|
Chester Beatty Library (really more of a museum to my thinking), Kilmainham Gaol if you are interested in history, National Museum, National Library (good Yeats exhibit in basement).

I think the Kilmainham Gaol and Dublin Castle are musts for History fans. Both tours really explain what the Irish people are all about. We went to a St Patrick's Cathedral church service on Sunday -- fantastic (we're not Catholic). The Guinness & Jamison tasting tours were okay -- skip them if you only have 1 day -- go if you have 2 days. We loved the Porterhouse & O'Neill's for the music and pub food. The Temple Bar area is for 20 year olds.

Loved Malahide Castle, a metro bus ride outside Dublin was incredible. Same family lived there for 500 years. Town and seaside are lovely.
Marsh's Library was fabulous. The oldest in Ireland, and its like stepping back in time. On the north side of the Liffey try to go to the courthouse (?). Just fun to see the barristers in black robes and powdered wigs. Christchurch is also very special and as it houses the costumes worn in The Tudors (the HBO show) and was also in some of the scenes, it was very nice. |
