Ireland - cold?
 

I posted earlier asking about whether I need shorts for Ireland (am leaving tomorrow). I've decided to take one pair. With daytime highs in the 60s and it being rainy a lot, does it feel pretty cool? I am someone who tends to FREEZE. Am debating whether a fleece shirt and unlined windbreaker would be enough. Should I go with a slightly warmer jacket for cool nights and mornings? I hate to be cold - but I also hate to have along more than I need (although we will have a car). Thoughts? Especially from those of you who get cold easily.

Yes, it'll feel pretty chilly. Damp and chilly. As is often mentioned here, layers work well. I wouldn't bring a heavier jacket (nighttime temps are in the 50s) but would add a few silk shirts (camisoles and long sleeves). They don't take up any room in the suitcase.

If you do run cold, you probably ought to leave the shorts at home. Doubtful you'll need them!

I'm usually very comfortable in Ireland in the summer unless we get rainy and windy conditions. Then you can feel pretty damp and chilled.

I start out the morning with a Tshirt under a long-sleeved shirt. I wear a fleece pullover over that as necessary. I also have a good rain parka handy. That's it for me. I don't take extra jackets. (But I am really tired of the fleece pullover by the end of the trip.)

Just returned from 3rd trip over and made reservations to go back again this sept. I would recommend the light fleece, don't forget you can buy a beautiful Irish knit sweater over there. Why drag extra clothes. Have fun, it is a wonderful place to be.

Thanks, everyone! I don't think I can resist the slightly warmer jacket. Since we have a direct flight (BWI-Shannon) and will have a car the whole time, I can just leave it in the backseat if I don't need it (and wear it on the plane!). Although the idea of buying a nice sweater in Ireland is pretty appealing - just might do that too! :-)

I would raraly feel warm enough to wear shorts but It would not be cool in Jeans. Dublin is a bit wet and rainy today and I have a light jacket.
