Ireland Aviation Spots?
My husband and I are going to Ireland for a week in May. He would like to visit an aviaiton related site somewhere on our trip (he's a pilot and aviation enthusiast. I could really give it a miss). Anybody know of any aviation relevent spots to visit anywhere in Ireland?

There is the Alcock and Brown memorial in Connemara. Connemara is one of the most beautiful areas in the counry. |
well, Alcock and Brown were the first to cross the Atlantic, in 1919. (not Lindbergh - he was the first to do it SOLO). there is a memorial to them in County Galway. I visited this 4 years ago - it's near Clifden.

The Flying Boat Museum in Foynes, Co. Limerick is an interesting stop. There are nice exhibits with lots of info on the flying boats that flew between the States and Europe in the 30's and 40's. It's supposedly where Irish coffee was invented!

:) flygirl. Thanks for clearing that up. When visiting the West, I've always been told by the locals that this was the FIRST trans-Atlantic flight, but I HAD always thought it was Lindbergh.
