Ireland and Drinking Water
 

I have read some warnings about the drinking water and am concerned. I consume quite a bit of water on a daily basis. Has anyone had any experiencies they can share with the drinking water in Ireland?

It's safe. There was a temporary problem last year in Galway, but that has been addressed.

I drank water all over Ireland and Northern Ireland (and I drink lots too). No problem whatsoever...

The warnings are pretty prominent in the Frommers 2009 Ireland Guide, specifically mentioning Ennis and Killarney. I'm going to Ireland in a few weeks and was going to post the same question as my immune system remains squashed after completing chemo a while back. So, it's good to hear that it is all done and over with though I think that I will play it safe and buy bottled water when I can (as I do here at home in California).

I have to say I have relatives in Ireland that i visit on a regular basis and they are shocked that we drink the water back in ny...... they don't drink their own water from tap.

We have excellent tap water here in our city but when drinking it in quite a few glasses a day, prefer to have it filtered ( attached to ones tap). This at least helps get rid of the over use of dangerous chlorine.

Just found this story online... not a pleasant thought.

The water here in Ireland is generally fine. Like mentioned for a while there was a major issue in Galway but that is all sorted.

Failing this you could just drink beer, the old fashioned way to not get poisoned by your liquid intake. :-)

The tap water is fine. Be very careful though, the beer causes many more problems than the water!

Thanks for the article from Irish times. I will be drinking bottled water. As for the beer comments, looking forward to a Guiness in between the bottles of water!

On my last visit to Ireland I drank bottled water and got very sick. I was then told not to buy Irish water bottled in Ireland. You can not leave it sit throughout the day as it will then make you very sick. I learned the hard way. We were advised to buy only Evian water as it was the safest water. Since that trip, when we travel we go to a market and buy a case of Evian. (When we have a rental car.)

Great idea to buy a case of water at the market and keep in trunk. Saves lots of time.

If there is an issue in an area they will let you know so dont worry. Galway had a problem a while back. I drink Tap water every day in Dublin and i am still here!
