Ireland Advice?
I am heading to Ireland Sept 1-9 for a wedding (& vacation). We arrive Dublin on the 2nd in the morning. We (a group of girls) are thinking Sligo for a few days? Then we have the Hen Party in Dublin on Wednesday night... Free on Thursday & Friday near Wexford, wedding is there on Saturday. We then have Sunday free. Advice for 1st time visitor?
Thanks! |
Why Sligo?? Galway might be a bit more enthrawling for a group of Girls easy run straight from DUB on an express bus (3 hours) Tours available in the days and a vibrant place evening/night.
Bus back to Dublin Wednesday have Thursday recovering/shopping and head to Wexford on Friday.. An Irish wedding which starts on Saturday will still be going on Sunday. |
In Wexford, a beautiful panorama:
-The Lighthouse and peninsula - Many good restaurants. - Enjoy seeing fishermen (why not have pictures with them? They are gentlemen) and their boats, fishes, little harbor. - The Kennedy house too. A very nice place. |
I like Sligo, but what I like about it might not suit a group of young women in hen party mode: some great scenery and a good deal of historical/cultural heritage from neolithic times to the 20th century.
I'm not sure about night life there. |
I agree with Padraig. I love Sligo. It is a great base for exploring more of the northern part of Ireland. There are a few places for a hen party; however, I think that Galway is probably a better option for that. Much more of a variety. I am not a big fan of Galway for "visiting". The Cliffs of Moher are spectacular. Clifden is lovely as well as Kylemore Abbey. I would visit places along the way getting there, stay the night for the hen party, and tour a bit more the following day. I would not spend a large amount of time in Galway city.
