We are a family of 6 traveling to Ireland for the first time this August. We will be there for 13 nights. My husband and I will be arriving to Dublin on the 24th and then the kids will meet us on the 27th in Dublin. We thought we would take the first couple of days and go north up to the Antrim Coast, Bushmill's Distillery and the Giant's causeway. Then we would travel back to Dublin and stay there the 26th, 27th and 28th. From there we were going to go to Kilkenny, stay there one night and head to Kinsale and stay there one night. We would then go to Dingle and stay there for three nights. From there we were going to head to Doolin and see the cliffs of Moher, staying in Doolin for the night.
Lastly we were going to go to Galway staying there a night and then heading back to Dublin where we will fly out of. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you bought your plane tickets? If not, do open-jaw and fly out of Shannon. Much easier when you're on the west side of the country.

That seems like a lot of time in Dublin for you and your husband (at least, it would be for me). Are you planning to do day trips? Glendalough is absolutely beautiful.

If the only reason you're staying in Doolin is to see the Cliffs, I would see them on the way to Galway and just go straight from Dingle to Galway. It will be a long driving day, but Doolin is very small, and one night in Galway (no full days) doesn't seem like enough.

I agree with jent that visiting the cliffs on the way to Galway to spend two nights there is a good idea.

Thanks for your suggestions. We did want to do some day trips around Dublin, Newgrange, Glendalough.
My sons have heard about Doolin and the music there so that is why the stopover. We could cut a day out of Dublin and stay two nights in Galway. Do you have any suggestions for must sees around Galway?
We bought our plane tickets already flying into and out of Dublin. (We got a great price so grabbed them without much thought on what we wanted to see and do).
What are your thoughts on stopping in Kilkenny and Kinsale for a night? Does this seem like it will be too much to squeeze in or should be just drive straight through to Dingle and spend more time on the west coast? I've been reading some tour books, Rick Steves and Fodors. Any other suggestions?

I haven't been to Kilkenny or Kinsale so can't comment there, but there's lots of information on here if you do a search. As far as the music in Doolin - you can find trad music just about anywhere (Dingle has several pubs with music just about nightly, for example). Doolin just doesn't have much besides a few pubs and a few b&bs.
