Ireland

8 days in Ireland,3in Dublin,3 in Killarney, 2 in Galway. 1st trip, what is a must see?

Too many days in Killarney IMO. Very touristy. See the ring of Kerry and then go to Dingle. Other then that go to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren on your way to Galway. If you had time you could do a day trip to Connemarra. Another great day trip from Galway is to the Aran Islands.

In Dublin - DON'T spend all of your time at the Temple Bar pubs. Get to some of the pubs off Grafton St. and go to O'Donoghues of St. Stephens Green. Also check out the Brazen Head - oldest pub in Dublin. Get a cab there from Temple Bar area.

Better; don't spend any of your time at the Temple Bar pubs (perhaps make an exception for the Palace Bar on Fleet Street, which was there before Temple Bar became what it is, and continues to be what it was).

Minor quibbles: O'Donoghue's is on Merrion Row. The Brazen Head is in comfortable walking range of Temple Bar (but if celechonski follows my advice, that becomes irrelevant).

To Naplo999& Padraig, Thanks for the advice. If I go from Dublin to Killarney where is a good stop over night. I understand it is not wise to try and make it in one day. celechonski

It's no problem going from Dublin to Killarney in one day. The exit from Dublin can be slow because of huge traffic volumes; then it is a very good road (mostly dual carriageway/motorway) until you are past Limerick. The last bit is single carriageway, mostly reasonably good, but with a few bad bits. As you don't know the road, I suggest that you leave before or immediately after lunchtime so as to complete the journey in daylight.

Thanks Padraig, Don't mean to be a pest, but I am told it will take about 7 hours to drive it. True or not. If it is maybe we want to stay overnight in a Town. celechonski

Just another vote to include Dingle; it's amazing, and the drive around Slea Head is out of this world. I wouldn't give Killarney more than a night or two at most. You can see the Ring of Kerry or experience Killarney State Park (breathtaking!) while you're there, but I found actual Killarney town to be way too touristy.

Five hours plus whatever stops you make is plenty of time to drive from Dublin to Killarney.

I'm not sure if I would recommend any place along the route as a stop. Limerick is a bit miserable; Adare looks very pretty, but I find it dull in the evening.

Kilkenny might make a nice stop, or the Rock of Cashel. I'm not sure if they're "directly" on your route, though. When I was in Ireland, I stayed a few nights in Dublin, drove to Kilkenny for a night, and stopped at the Rock of Cashel en route from Kilkenny to Killarney.

To Padraig & Strass, Thanks for the advice. celechonski

I second Strass's suggestion of stopping at the Rock of Cashel. You should not have a problem driving to Killarney in one day.
