IRELAND

We are trying to put together a trip to London/Ireland for the fall. We need to find a company that will put together the details like air, hotel and activity options without doing a full-blown guided tour. I spoke to TripMasters and thought is was a perfect match since they plan it based on your add-on activities. However, I am not happy with the service as I spoke with them on Wed. and Friday and have yet to receive an itenerary. Any ideas?

Most people who come here for advice are happy to get suggestions, make choices, and then book the separate components of their trip. The advantage of that approach is that you can tailor an itinerary to reflect your own interests.

Do you have any objection to taking on the programme planning for yourself?

If you want to go that way, give us something to work on - your budget, your travel style, your interests, an idea of your age, places that you might like to include.

I used a company called Tenon Tours out of Boston for our trip to Ireland in 2011 and my trip to Scotland & London in 2015. The arranged all airport transfers, guided day tours out of Dublin, Edinburgh, and London with Rabbies/Paddywagon tours, hotels, and trains/busses. We did airfare on our own. Basically tell them where you want to go and what you want to see and they handle the logistics.

Thank you for the responses. I have always planned our trips but a little hesitant on this one because I'm not comfortable with the locations. We want to see London, Dublin, Killarney, cork and Galway (I think) stone, cliffs, golf once...the sights in general. We like on/off busses. Like lodging that includes breakfast. We like to explore and dine on our own. Any suggested itineraries?

London, I don't touch. Ireland I offer free advice via the forums. Flights, I don't touch, Accommodation and activities detailed (but not booked) as a daily itinerary no problem but if someone comes to me on Monday and expects me to plan a detailed personal itinerary by the end of the week they might be better buying off the shelf. Had to google TripMasters, looked at 5 itineraries. Rick Steves style springs to mind although not Kinsale and Dingle focused. Depends what you are looking for over and above whats on the shelf. There are lots of large operations selling packages. There are fewer folk who detail personal itinerary planning but these are individuals not big business so apart from one I know don't arrange the accommodation and events for you, certainly don't arrange and book flights for you.

Now if you want some excellent free advice on a possible itinerary and activities off lots of folk on the forums. You need to give some details.
Why Ireland?
When? (Fall can mean anything)
How long on the ground?
Locations?
Interests?

Basically the more information the better the question and the more relevant answers you are likely to get.

Why Ireland? Why not??? Late August, or September. Looking at 7-8 days on the ground. Dublin, Cork, Killarney, Galway - open to suggestions. We want to get a round of golf in, stay in city center places so we can walk around. We like on/off busses so we can move at our own pace. Generally see the sights and enjoy the Irish people.
Thanks.

My first question has indicated you have no ancestry so nowhere that has to fit in.

August September.. Schools go back the beginning of September so August is a busy month, the last week especially as lots of local families holiday the last week of the school holidays. Accommodation could be tight and will be more expensive than September.

Around a week means a section of about 1/3rd the island.

Galway~Killarney~Cork~Dublin Or Cork~Killarney~Galway~Dublin fits the slice you have time for but it depends how long you prefer to stay, moving every night / every other night can work and you can get point to point easily on public transport and take local tours.

I would leave the Dublin time to the end rather than a night when you arrive and 2 nights the end vicversa as this is 3 nights Dublin. I would say fly into Shannon then Galway 2 nights, Killarney 2 nights, Cork 1 night and Dublin 2. not sure where to fit in the Golf? possibly the Galway course by Salthill. If you want to fit in at Trumpton Doonbeg then you would have to fit that in between Galway and Killarney. Old Head Kinsale is another higher end option.

The above could be reversed so start flying into Cork from a London Airport?
