What to wear

bvlenci Feb 22nd, 2014 06:27 AM

Clothing.

When are you going? I wear layers no matter what time of the year as they say you can get four seasons in one day. Always take a rain jacket, fleece to go underneath and you should be good. I pack light as there are laundry facilities. Jeans, khakis, nothing fancy unless you plan on eating or staying somewhere that requires that type of attire. Good leather walking shoes and a spare in case they get drenched.

Going in Sept. Thanks

Hi Judy, Europe in Sept! Looking for more details, Northern Finland is above the Artic circle and 10C, Sicily in Sept will be 25C, Ireland it may be raining. Milan has a fashion show.

Where are you thinking of going? :-)

Sorry Judy, the Ireland bit was destroyed by my browser.

Warmish 15-20C with fair chance of rain. Layers is always good in this maritime area. Depending on what you do walking boots may be a good idea and some walks may be boggy.

My britches-of-choice for Ireland are Land's End sport knit pants. Lightweight for packing and don't wrinkle easily, and they are super comfortable. I don't like to have to think about my clothes while vacationing.
Hooded windbreaker is a must. Under that I layer tee shirts (long or short sleeves depending on day's weather) and a lightweight cotton yoga jacket. Occasionally I have used a cotton cabled cardigan for coldest weather but it is pretty bulky to pack.
I'm not much of a hiker so my Reebok Princesses are adequate. Warm cotton socks.
