Ireland--dining for a vegetarian
Hi all,
I've got all of our lodging booked for our Ireland trip (May). Now I'm thinking about other details of each stop, and I'm on to food. I've read through many, many threads on various boards about favorite restaurants, but I'm looking for current views with a twist. The twist--I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian. I eat dairy and eggs but no meat (including poultry, fish, seafood). My partner and Mom both eat meat. I know from our 2002 trip that a vegetarian can eat pretty easily in Ireland. The produce was great, the dairy devine. Most meals were not "special" for me, but even pub food was more than adequate (toasties sans meat never actually got boring for lunch!). This trip, however, I'd like to consider a couple of special meals. With that in mind, any recs for vegetarian friendly special dining? We'll be staying in Roundstone (O'Dawds will work--but what about towns near Roundstone?), Galway (Salthill), Castlegregory, Kenmare, Bunratty. Also, several folks have recommended Monk's Pub in Ballyvaughan for lunch on day 1 (en route to Roundstone). I know the place is known for seafood; any comments on veggie options?
Thanks!--oopsy

Monks was where I had my first meal in Ireland They had a wonderful potato leek soup as well as nice brown bread and Guinness(which should be considered a meal initself!). In Kenmare Malachy's and Packies(which are on the nicer side of restaurants had some good veggie meals.

I think you will find that most pubs and such carry vegetarian fare..we were there with 12 high school students half of them meat eaters and the other half not, no one went hungry. The Irish will go out of there way to take care of you. I promise. Have a great trip.
