Ira's Off to Paris

Hi all,

Leaving for Paris this evening.

Have checked the weather reports - rain predicted everyday of our visit.

Yesterday, I thought I would do some weeding.

Result: I have poison ivy.

Au revoir.

Trip report on return.

elle Apr 27th, 2004 08:36 AM

Ira, the best treatment for poison ivy is a good bottle of French wine, taken internally.

When we went last month, the forecast said rain everyday, but we ending up having beautiful weather with just two spotty showers.

Have a time that's magnifique, then come back and tell us all about it.

Have a wonderful trip, Ira.

Can't wait to read of your adventures.

My two solid weeks of rain prediction in early April turned into two days with intermittent light showers - forget what the weather reports are telling you.

I'm sure there will be some wonder cream for your poison ivy at a Paris pharmacy, too - some of those those French remedies are superb. And browing around the phramacies is a treat in itself.

Bonne route!

ira -

Have a wonderful and safe journey. I've learned a lot of information from your posts, and look forward to your trip report when you return, when I'm sure I'll learn something new. Peace.

Say hello to Madame for me....Tell her that we enjoyed our stay very much..We were there July 18 for 4 days..she probably remember Trevor, my 9 years old hansome grandson..

Bon Voyage,

Iregeo Apr 27th, 2004 08:57 AM

Ira, sorry to hear of your poison ivy. That'll teach you to do the weeding!

Have a lovely trip. Please give Bonaparte the cat a scratch behind the ears for me! (and you, too, if you need one!)

Treesa Apr 27th, 2004 09:00 AM

Ira: Wishing you a fabulous trip. Don't pay much attention to the weather reports. They tend to be inaccurate. Do something out of the ordinary and share upon your return.

cigalechanta Apr 27th, 2004 09:06 AM

ira, weather is always unpredictable.
Don't scratch the itch, it can spread
your druggist can give you something to control it.
Have a wonderful time and we all wish you great weather and moments.

Budman Apr 27th, 2004 09:07 AM

Ira, there's never bad weather, only bad clothes.

Although I've never been there, I will continue to recommend that restaurant in Orvieto to folks in your name until you return.

Have a happy and safe trip. ((b))

Have a great trip. Remember, rain is only water.... it dries. When I figured that out in Rome this month things got infinitely brighter!

grilledsardine Apr 27th, 2004 09:17 AM

have a great trip. paris is even beautiful and romantic in the rain.

Larry_M Apr 27th, 2004 09:17 AM

Ira - A few years ago I was plagued with poison ivy nearly every summer, and came across an over-the-counter product called Zanfel. It is an abrasive scrub, and quite expensive at $40 for a container. But one small tube goes a long way, and worked like a miracle...the itching is relieved almost immediately, and the hives receded within 24 hours.
And no, I don't work for the company, but I remember an agonozing flight some years ago, from Las Vegas to Philadelphia...the red eye, in the middle seat, with full blown poison ivy all over my legs, 5 of the most miserable hours I can recall. If you get some today, I'm sure your flight will be much more tolerable.
Have a great trip!

dln Apr 27th, 2004 09:21 AM

Have a good trip, Ira! I recommend Fluocinonide Gel, USP, 0.05% for the poison ivy. Your doctor can order it for you.

We're off to Paris in September, so I will be looking for those detailed restaurant reports you write so well. Enjoy!

Mathieu Apr 27th, 2004 09:30 AM

Salutations Ira !
(and don't forget to have a Big Mac for us).

M.

Margie Apr 27th, 2004 09:35 AM

Bon Voyage! Get the Zanfel and get rid of the poison ivy. I'm already looking forward to your trip report!

Budman Apr 27th, 2004 09:39 AM

Oh, and stay away from Pigalle -- I don't think the folks on this board can come up with a cure for what you could catch there. ((a)) ((b))

awbaker Apr 27th, 2004 09:49 AM

Lucky you! For your Paris adventure, not the poison ivy. My husband got poison ivy a couple of years ago right before our trip to Thailand. He still had a wonderful time. I look forward to your report.

grandmere Apr 27th, 2004 09:58 AM

Check out Hotel du Lys, 23 rue Serpente, if you get a chance. Serpente runs off rue Danton(which runs off Blvd. St. Germain, near Boul Mich'!

Bon voyage!

SuzieC Apr 27th, 2004 09:58 AM

You'll be missed! Have a wonderful time! Bon chance...bon voyage

(and now I've got the song Poison Ivy running around my head...)

indytravel Apr 27th, 2004 10:00 AM

Have fun ira!

Nikki Apr 27th, 2004 10:03 AM

Bon voyage. And if anybody posts a story about the seatmate who scratched his way across the Atlantic, we'll tell them they were lucky to be sitting next to you and hope they took some of your travel advice.

mvor Apr 27th, 2004 10:37 AM

If Elle's excellent advice doesn't work, I'm sure a couple of visits to Pierre Herme will cure what ails you! Have a terrific time and please give our regards to Napoleon.

ira Apr 27th, 2004 10:49 AM

Thank's allfor your happy thoughts.

Larry_M I feel for you. Fortunately my cas is not that bad.

grandmere, do you want a report, or is the du Lys a suggestion?

grandmere Apr 27th, 2004 11:22 AM

I thought that when I was waxing eloquent about it a few months ago, you said you wanted to look at it when you were in Paris, to compare it to Bonaparte. They're both around same price, I believe, 2 stars, good locations, etc. I saw Bonaparte when I was in Paris in Mar., but did not ask to see a room; should have.

Have a wonderful time! And how could you not?!

grandmere Apr 27th, 2004 11:26 AM

Re weather: maybe just lucky, but every time I've been to Europe since able to check weather on internet, it's always been better than the forecast. Bonne chance!

rex Apr 27th, 2004 11:36 AM

<<Remember, rain is only water.... it dries.>>

What a memory this brings back for me. I was in Normandy with a student exchange program (I was the accompagnateur, not a student), and we went on a field trip to a nearby chateau one day - - walking the one-and-a-half miles there and back (does this happen in America anymore with schoolchildren?).

Anyhow, it started to rain, and all the kids started screaming and crying out "what are we gonna do?"

... and for a brief moment, it looked just like the same countryside that Tom Hanks and company were walking through in "Saving Private Ryan", and I thought - - "Raindrops!" - - these are RAINDROPS!

You can get hit by a lot worse than raindrops, as Americans, and Frenchmen, and Germans, and Aussies and Poles and more... could attest to, on that hallowed ground.

I haven't gotten worked up by finding myself out walking when rain starts... ever since that day.

Have a great trip, ira...

Best wishes,

Rex

Have a wonderful trip, Ira. If there is anything that can take your mind off poison ivy, it has to be Paris! We will eagerly await your trip report as it is sure to make our September trip better! Bon voyage!

Ziana Apr 27th, 2004 12:06 PM

Bon voyage and don't forget a magic word ... presents!
Have fun!

rj007 Apr 27th, 2004 12:12 PM

Have a great trip Ira. Paris is a great place to get over the poison ivy! I will look for your report with some more great ideas for Paris.

Have fun!

Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch
A common cold'll fool ya
And whooping cough'll cool ya
But poison ivy, Lord'll make you itch!!

-- "Poison Ivy", by the great songwriting team of Jerry Lieber & Mike Stoller

Au revoir, Ira. Hope you have a wonderful time!

grosenb Apr 27th, 2004 12:49 PM

Ira, When are you coming back?

Budman Apr 27th, 2004 05:02 PM

Ira is probably on the way to the airport by now or even airborne, and can't answer the question of when he is coming back. Hope he comes back safe. ((b))

Scarlett Apr 27th, 2004 05:05 PM

sigh~ I would rather have poison ivy in Paris than in Florida ....

I look forward to the report~

barbmike Apr 27th, 2004 07:26 PM

Ira, I'm sure you're sipping on a glass of wine at 33,000 feet by now. Don't pay attention to the weather predictions. Part of my recent trip to Europe predicted rain/snow every day of my week's stay in Interlaken. Well it did snow heavily the first day followed by 6 GLORIOUS, SUNNY days. Have A Great Trip !!! Mike

Croque_Madame Apr 27th, 2004 09:02 PM

Ira, in case you check Fodors while in Paris: "Tous mes voeux pour un bon voyage!"

If anything can make you forget poison ivy, Paris should do it.

When I'm there, far from home and all that implies, I enjoy a most euphoric sort of temporary amnesia.

Ziana Apr 28th, 2004 05:34 AM

I am wondering if flying much safer then driving, why then we never tell in the morning
"Hope he comes back safe." (Budman)

sandypaws3 Apr 29th, 2004 06:18 AM

Hi, Ira... sorry I didn't see this until today. You should be in Paris now, enjoying yourself. Hope the poison ivy is better. I find the best thing for that is an anti-histimine and calomine lotion. Some people do well with the cortizone ointments, though. Looking forward to reading your trip report :-)

Best,
Sandy

sandypaws3 Apr 29th, 2004 06:19 AM

p.s. Hope you're having a wonderful trip!

Best,
Sandy
