Ira-Gasthof Simony Hallstatt

Do you have a fax number or email for Gasthof Simony? Was your stay there a good one or not so good?

Hello ira,
Thinking back, I recall that you and your wife will be in Germany/Austria around the same time as my family. We'll be visiting Hallstatt (just as a daytrip) on June 4th. I hope you enjoy your stay and look forward to your trip report, as always. Where else do you plan to visit?

Thanks Ira.

TexasAggie: We are planning on arriving in Hallstatt on June 4th also.

What a coincidence! Well if you see a group of 7 similar-looking folks led by a brown-haired young lady, age 27, carrying an unwieldy stack of Fodors print-outs... that will be us! Please feel free to introduce yourselves as it would truly be a delight to meet you both. Happy planning to you both as your trip approaches (although I wager you are the primary planner in your family!)

Scatcat, we stayed for one night at the Simony in May 2005. We had reservations at the Gruner Baum for 3 nights but due to unexpected water damage over winter, they had not finished all the repairs and could not accommodate us until the 3rd night.

The first night we spent at the Zauner but they were full the next night so we were able to get a room at the Simony. It did not have a toilet in the room, just a shower and basin. It was the cheapest room at E65 I believe.

Suzannah is probably pushing 80 by now. She's a very nice lady but forgetful. She does have help in the day to day operation of the hotel, but when we were there, the place was beginning to look a little threadbare. It could certainly use an update.

That said, there is a certain charm to the place and breakfast was great. Suzannah made freshly baked Schnecken rolls and served hot chocolate.

The location is great, right on the town square and on the lake, with fabulous views. But I definitely feel the Gruner Baum is worth the extra $$.
