Ira - you mentioned a trip report you did on the sw of france. can you link to it, please as i could not find it after scrolling through a number of your posts? I am looking for a base (or two) for a fall trip to Query/Lot Departments.
Thank you.

thanks, Ira. Also, do you favor being based in one spot for a week to 10 days ( also thinking of Barcelona before or after)? We spent a couple weeks in a larger area back in 2001 - from south of Carcassone to Sarlat, but wanted to concentrate on the area between Cahors/Brive and Bergerac/Figeac this time. Also - you seem to like Lascaux II; doesn't it seem a bit ersatz when there are other prehistoric spots to visit in the area? Or is it secial enough to merit the time? Thanks for any suggestions/ recommendations you or others you know with knowledge of the area might have. I have made more than a dozen trips to france - town & country, and by plane, train and automobile, as well as a lot of hoofing and a bit of climbing, to give you an idea of my interest level, familiarity and fondness for the country. Again, merci beaucoup for any thoughts you have!

I've made several trips to the region but do not know the area well between Cahors and Brive well enough to offer advice. One thing I will comment upon is Lascaux. I was also a bit dubious and am glad that I dismissed my own skepticism, as I felt it was very worthwhile and you would not realize it was "ersatz" unless you knew. Also, the nearby town of Montignac is lovely. And there are some great places to eat near Lascaux!!
