iPhone Service in France

I am moving to Grenoble in the French Alps for school and need to know if my American iPhone will work in France. Also, will I be able to switch providers without buying a new phone.

Lastly, on a side note... If you know of housing options for apartments in the area of Grenoble, that would be helpful.

Thanks!

If your iPhone is unlocked, then yes, you can use it in France with a local French provider.

But I think the phones are sold locked. I am sure there is a way to unlock....

Do a google for 'unlock iphone'... as far as I know most are sold locked in the US but it's not hard to unlock them. It will void the warranty but apparently it's possible to lock them again just in case.

Once you're unlocked you can find a carrier in France that suits you.

As I understand it you can also 'jailbreak' the phone so you are not tied to itunes for apps.

Thanks for your responses! I will check it out and get it unlocked if necessary.

If your phone is unlocked means no problem you can use it with France local provider. If it's locked means you need to unlock it with American carrier network. There are several ways to unlock Iphone. According to me remote unlocking is the best way to unlock Iphone. There are many online providers who provide this service .Let me suggest a legit site where i used to get my iphone unlocked http://www.wickedunlock.com/apple-iphone/rs16wp9/. If you want you can try them to unlock your iphone .
