IPAD and apps
 

Just wondering if anyone has been using their IPad when visiting Paris and what apps were found useful for Paris in terms of street maps, museums, restaurants, etc.

Kindle App, as you can download some excellent and cheap guides to read offline. Examples are the MobileReference guides which are about $4.99 and Bumblehood Travel Guide to Paris & London (2012 edition), also $4.99 I think.
And Instapaper is a must, as you can Instapaper articles to the iPad on a place, museum, restaurant info etc from sites like Wikipedia, the restaurant home page etc and then read them when you feel like it, and offline.

I used Paris Metro for Ipad by Zuti a lot. It was very helpful in planning my day. Good resource.

For restaurants and hotels suitable for all budgets, the best resource is the Michelin Red Guide now available as an app for any smartphone/tablet. Here is the version from Apple:

I was wondering if anyone had found a good translator app, or a menu app. I've seen a few that look interesting, like Word Lens, which will let you take a picture of a menu page and then translate it. Has anybody tried any of these?

Someone mentioned French LE as being a good app for translation. Haven't be able to find it in the Apple App store.
Anyone else use the above? If so, where is it or is it under a different name?

You can use google maps to map your way between "where you are" to any address you have put into your contacts, or find from TripAdvisor (actually, TA has a pretty good app to find restaurants or things to do, etc near your current location).

Is the TA app that you are referring to on its website (TA) or on Apples App site?

China-cat ... I find iTranslate is excellent, free from iTunes for iPad unless you want one of the upgraded versions. LIke the idea of a menu app so hope you find one.

I think I got it via Their website. I also downloaded a food topic translator called dishoo. It was of limited use, although it gives you many language choices. If something really stumped us, I would do a google search on the word and it usually came up.

Just checked out Best Travel App and it's on sale for $2.99 this weekend so I bought it.

Fodor's is currently offering some free universal travel apps, regularly $5.99. I downloaded Paris, London and NYC.
