My husband and I will taking our 16 yr. old son with us on our trip to Scotland in AUg. We are staying 2 nights at Iona. Will there be anything for a 16 yr. old guy to enjoy?

Nothing comes to mind. Mostly sheep and tourist. Perhaps he could take the ferry back to Mull and then the bus to Tobermory for one of the days. I have not spent a night on Iona, but it seem that it would be very quiet.

depends on what he likes. If he is into outdoorsy things, scenery etc he can have a great time. Just exploring the island is fun, and the boat trip out to Staffa and Fingall's Cave should not be missed.

Does he play golf? There is a nice 9 hole course on the west side of the island.

Other than those sorts of thing - not much else for kids . . . . .

I'm with Roger. It's not being cynical to suggest that Iona is basically a barren island whose absolute charm lies in its history. If you are not interested in the religious history of the place, it would be pretty dreary. Even more so if you are sixteen. Even more so if it rains (and it probably will!)

Iona is a lovely island, and not a barren rock. It has beautiful beaches and there are many outdoor activities which can be enjoyed. Lots of people take family holidays there every year.

I DO have reservations about a mid teenager, but it pretty much comes down to what that person likes.

Actually I spent 2 summers on Iona in my mid teens & had the time of my life, but then I was with a load of other young people. The weather was great all the time. (And the last time I went, in May 1997, I got horribly sunburned !!)

It's only *one day*, for goodness sake ! Surely he can enjoy seeing all the beautiful sights, natural and historic, for one day ? And if not, as janis mentions, there is the boat trip to Staffa.
