Inverness "County Fair"
A couple of years ago in Scotland we were about to go out for a visit to the Campbell Castle ( I think) when the owner of our B&B suggested we visit a local fair held for 2 days only on the grounds of some former estate. Our 13 yr. old son loved it. Terrier races, pigeon plucking contest, dog trials, skeet shooting, scotch tastings, kilt dancers, etc. It was truly something the "locals" put on each year. Can anyone tell me the name of this and if it is truly a yearly event? We plan to go back in 2005 in Aug. and would love to revisit this fair.

It will either have been a Highland Games
http://www.invernesshighlandgames.com/ or an agricultural show. Do you remember which town it was in or near? Do you remember what time of year it was? |
It was in August near Inverness- we drove through a sheep pasture (not unusual, I know, but beautiful). We did this rather than touring the castle where the Clan Campbell lived. In the USA it would be compared to the State Fair. Folks had their dogs and ferrets on leashes, falcons and birds of prey were being handled, etc. No, real sports activities other than the dogs and hunting/shooting things.

Well, the sheep are not much of a give-away, for sure. Some of the activities are more like a Game Fair.
Was it the Highland Field Sports Fair at Moy? http://www.scotland-index.co.uk/Inve.../Moy/games.htm The castle's not much of a give-away either. I had cause to look up Campbell castles for one of your compatriots not that long ago and I found this:- Campbell Castle Carnasserie Castle Carrick Castle Cawdor Castle Craignish Castle Dunstaffnage Castle Dumbarton Castle Innis Chonnel Castle Inveraray Castle Kilchurn Castle Loudoun Castle Skipness Castle Strachur Castle Sween Cessnock Castle Taymouth Castle |
You are great! Yes, it was MOY! Thanks!!! My brain was just not working too well and the harder I tried to remember the worse it seemed to get! Thanks a lot!
