Inverness Area vs Aberdeenshire Area?
 

We are a multi-generational family of 5 adults and 4 children traveling around Scotland for 3 weeks starting June 12th. I have managed to secure accommodations in Edinburgh (our arrival city) for 3-4 nights, then Isle of Mull for 2 nights, next is the Glencoe area for 4 nights, and we are on Skye for 4 nights. We want to go at a slower pace due to the fact that we have young children traveling with us and two of the adults may need to be working remotely on and off. After Skye we will have 7 nights left. This last bit is turning out to be more of a challenge to me. I know that we'd like to spend our last 2-3 nights in the Fife area, but was hoping that we could stay somewhere either near Inverness or Aberdeenshire area as a home base prior to moving back closer to Edinburgh. I know that the Moray Coast area is quite beautiful and I have some ancestral connections in the Aberdeenshire area. Any suggestions/comments or recommendations would be most welcome. OK - first one slight change I'd make - I'd take 1 night (at least) from Glencoe and add it to Mull. It will take most of the first day to get from Edinburgh to either Tobermory or Fionnphort - - at very least its a 6 hour drive. And that is with no stops of any kind. So count on about an 8 hour drive with just minimal photo op stops and a meal or two. So you will really only have one day to explore Mull. My self -- 2 nights would be enough for Glencoe but 3 could work great IF you were doing a lot of hiking and also exploring Glen Ettive and farther afield like Killin/Falls of Dochart, etc

Mull is a large island, the driving is very slow, and there is a lot to see -- one day isn't enough.

As for where to spend the other 7 days -- do all three. Easy peasy. Two nights near Inverness (not IN Inverness) for Culloden, Ft George, Cawdor, etc. Then three night along the Dee for the Castle Trail and the rest of Aberdeenshire. Finishing up with two nights in Fife -- preferably staying in one of the fishing villages -- Crail or Anstruther or Pittenweem, etc.

How are you dealing with all the vehicles you'll need. For nine plus hopefully limited luggage will need 3 midsized or compact cars and therefore at least minimum of 4 drivers to allow for any issues. Many of the roads on Mull and Skye are very narrow -- even some single track which are one lane for two way traffic with passing places. So you would want smaller rather than larger vehicles.

Oh - just saw your other thread. Knowing that you'll need 2 car seats definitely means 3 cars.
