Inverness Accomodation - recommendations requested

With help from Fodorites, our itinerary is developing nicely. Thought I'd post a few bits separately.

We are looking for an accomodation for 5 nights, preferaably just outside Inverness, which we will be using as a base and take day trips.

Rentals appear to be for a week minimum and quite a few are booked as it is. So we are now turning to B&Bs.

Any recommendations? Ideally not in the middle of town, but close enough to go for a meal.

Our budget is about 100 pounds per night (we are 2 adults and 2 kids under 12)

You could check out the Marriott Inverness. It's a bit higher than your stated budget, but it is not a regular cookie cutter Marriott. It is outside of town in an "historic" building.

I also just checked out the Best Western website and they have a couple of places at Inverness... again, they are not the cookie cutter variety of B.W.

Have a wonderful trip!

I'd personoally skip hotels - nice ones will be over your budget and the rest - not so nice.

here are a few B&Bs to check out

http://www.dunlichityhouse.com/ They have a family room for 4 for £90

http://www.scotland-info.co.uk/westhill.htm a mile from Culloden. They have a 2 bdrm flat they rent by the night

http://www.king-of-clubs.co.uk/ near Culloden. They have 2 family rooms but not sure if either will sleep 4

http://www.scotland-inverness.co.uk/balaggan/

http://www.glebe-end.co.uk/ is in Nairn which is about 15 miles east of Inverness and is an altogether nicer place to stay than in I'ness (plenty of places to eat etc.)

I'd have thought you'd get a place with two double or twin rooms for £500, even if the rental period is a week instead of 5 days, no?

I'll find you some places when I get home (well, I'll try- I'm running very short of time as I aim for my own hols at the end of the week.)

Thanks Shiela - highly appreciate it.

Sheila makes an excellent point - renting a nice cottage for £400 a week and only using it for 5 nights would be cheaper than your £100 a night budget.

Here are a few cottages to check out.

http://www.aigas-holidays.co.uk/ A terrific place and very inexpensive. Near Beauly. As you can see from their avaiability chart - very popular.

http://www.uniquescotland.com/heraghtylodge/index.html A little over you budget but right on the water.

http://www.uniquescotland.com/herdsmans/index.html A beautiful cottage on the Black Isle

http://www.uniquescotland.com/oldfishermans/index.html A fisherman's cottage in Avoch

http://www.uniquescotland.com/chanonry/index.html cottage next to Chanonry Point Lighthouse

http://www.mackays-self-catering.co.uk/ A good agency w/ lots of moderately priced cottages - you can plug in your dates and requirements to find any w/ availability.

I stayed and recommend The Beaufort Hotel, sort of across from the Inverness Castle. Not really in city centre, the restaurant was outstanding. Plenty parking.

The cottage Sheila linked is practically next door to one of the ones I recommended -- Avoch would be a lovely place to stay.

Thanks guys - you are wonderful!

I sent enquiries to all the properties you listed, but most of them seem to be booked. I had looked at the uniquescotland website earlier - but everything booked.

So far, I have only received a reply with availability at http://www.king-of-clubs.co.uk/ will have to close it if nothing else becomes available soon!

thanks again.

We have booked with http://www.king-of-clubs.co.uk/
They were really helpful over the telephone and it seems like a nice place outside town.

We have also booked at Sheraton in Edinburgh for the first 2 nights, which will be the starting point of the trip. I thought might as well splurge a bit to shake of the travel fatigue, plus it would be nice for the kids to stay in a room with the castle in view!

Thank you all so much for your help.
