Inverness
We would like to spend a few days seeing the Highlands on an upcoming trip to Scotland. We will be relying on public transportation so were thinking Inverness might be a good base from which we could do day trips. Would there be a better town to stay in that would give us easy access to the Highlands?

If you need to rely on public transport, then Inverness is really your only practical option.
Do you not want to drive - or is it that you can't drive? If you can't drive - then yes, stay in Inverness. |
Thanks for your reply janisj - We can drive, but don't want to. We have always found public transport in the UK to be fairly good. It sounds like we should stick with Inverness.

As per janisj, Inverness will be your best base if you want to explore the Higlands with public transport only.
Depending on where you want to visit, you will need to use a combination of train and bus, along with the odd boat ride if you want to cross Lochs and add a bit of sightseeing along the way. You'll find some areas just aren't accessible without a car, so bear that in mind when you're plotting your route. |
Thanks for your information. You confirmed what I suspected!
