Intra-European Airlines

We are looking to fly from Frankfurt to Barcelona and would appreciate anyone here on this board who can lead me to inexpensive airlines, for example Ryan Air (that does not fly between Frankfurt and Barcelona).

Lufthansa and Iberian Airways are quite expensive. We will need only one way flights since we will be doing a transatlantic cruise back.

Many thanks.

Easy! Check out www.europebyair.com

Yes I do have a connection with this company, but no I won't make any money out of your booking!

I was going to check EuropyeByAir to see if they have anything close, but I am not finding the site up and running right now. Anyone else experience this?

Hope it's just some temporary outage.

Best wishes,

Rex
There are some intra-European airlines in the Star Alliance group, I believe. Tyrolean flies from Germany to Austria, for example. I forget the name of some of the others.

Try www.flights.com They are based in Germany, and have offices in New York & California. Good for finding flights within Europe as well as within the U.S.

I have used them and check periodically and find them quite good for prices, etc.

Just remember they use day 1st I believe when asking for dates to travel.

Just talked to a friend who came back from 6 weeks in Europe and used easyjet.com for many low-priced flights.

You best bet is to find out what the national airlines are.

For ex. The airlines that are based in spain are: Iberia, AirEuropa, Spanair. check out those airlines.

Mary,

Have you tried getting a low fare on Lufthansa or Iberia by searching for a roundtrip ticket including a Saturday night "stay" in Barcelona? You can just throw out the unused return coupon.

Otherwise, your best bet is to take Germanwings (Lufthansa's new low-fare carrier) from Köln/Bonn to Barcelona. They only start service on Oct. 27 though - you can already book them at:
http://www.germanwings.de/index_en.html

You can take very fast ICE train service from Frankfurt to Köln. The quickest connections take less than 2 hours from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station) to the airport. You get off the train at Köln Hauptbahnhof, then take the shuttle bus (service every 15 mins approx.). The only drawback is that these fast trains are expensive (about EUR 50).

Train & bus schedules are available at:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
Enter "Flughafen Koeln" as your destination.

Another cheap, if less convenient alternative would be to fly Ryanair from Frankfurt/Hahn to Perpignan, then train to Barcelona

Hope this helps,
Andre
