Internet Cafe/Phone Cards

While I am in Italy in May, I will need to be in contact with my family here in the US. I have heard of internet cafes in other parts of Europe, but not in Italy. Do they exist in Italy? Any experiences with them would be really helpful. Also, what are the best phone cards for calling back home? Any helpful info? Thanks!

Yep, there are a few. I remember seeing no less than 5 in Florence alone. Just look around.

We found Internet Train while in Italy. They have places all over Italy. Find them at www.internettrain.it

Hi Pam. If you'll be in Rome, there's a HUGE (and inexpensive) internet cafe called EasyEverything, at the Piazza Barberini.

http://www.easyEverything.com/map/rom.html

You also might look for signs saying (as I recall) "Internet Point" in smaller towns. I stopped into a bar/cafe in Arezzo, for example, that had one little terminal. It was kinda funky, but it worked.

There's a bunch of "Internet Train" outposts in Florence. Utilitarian (no beverages, no smoking) but plenty of locations throughout the city. In Venice, I loved Nethouse in Campo San Stefano. Fun to stop for a few minutes after a day of sightseeing (it was two minutes away from my hotel) and send notes to friends stateside who were just arriving at their desks to put in a full day of work! Bevs including alcohol, sandwiches / snacks, nice atmosphere and cool crowd @ Nethouse.

I concur with the above poster who used the Nethouse in Venice. We, too, used this internet cafe and it was very convenient, inexpensive and "trendy". Also open very late (maybe even open 24 hours). There were LOTS of computer terminals and we never had to wait for one. We also bought a phone card there and though I don't remember the exact price per minute to call back to the states, I do remember it was the best "phone home" deal we could find.

P.S. We got engaged in Venice and we used the Nethouse at midnight to notify all our family and friends back home!

There were internet cafes not only in the cities but also in the smaller towns -- internet access in teeny markets and cafes. I used these while we were in Stresa, on Elba, in Portevenere, and in Siena and Florence there were huge places with many many terminals.
