International weight restrictions
Does anyone know what the luggage weight restrictions are on internatioanl flights? We are flying to Greece on Olympic in June.

Hi
You need to ask Olympic, every airline has their own rules, and they change from time to time Be sure to ask about carry-on restrictions, sometimes they are restricted both by dimensions and by weight |
it will be printed on your ticket or on their website.
remember, if you stop over somewhere along the way to final destination, the LOCAL luggage restrictions will kick in. example: you are going to greece, but stop over two days in paris.. you get only 20 kilos from paris to athens, whereas you will get approx. 60 kilos from USA to Paris. this probably doesn´t apply to you in this case.. but just keep it in mind for another time. |
Each person may bring 2 bags of 32kg/70 lbs. (no one bag can exceed 32 kg.).
Lincasanova, I wonder if you are right about the weight limit going down for flying within Europe, IF your ticket originated in the US. That has not been my experience. When we have shown that we are flying on a ticket that originated in the US, we have been allowed to carry bags within Europe at the international rate of 32 kg. But they do need your ticket, because to override the within-Europe 20kg weight limit, the international ticket number needs to be entered into the computer. We have done this on Olympic, although you probably aren't intending to stop-over if you are flying on Olympic. |
Lincasanova is right about the weight restrictions. If you are on a connecting flight that originated in the US, the US weight limits apply. However, if you STOP OVER, the intra-European weight limits apply. The onward flight from the stopover destination will NOT have originated in the US.

I am not sure about this, but was told by Delta that if you booked your flight via them you get the internatioal weight limits on all segments. You might want to call and verify although I can't imagine needeing 70 lbs of junke!

I have tried Olympic's website and couldn't find the info. I called my local travel agent who finally got the info! She said that it is 55 lbs. per person. I think that with 1 lg. suitcase and a carry-on we should be OK. I never pack light, but think I will this time.
