International Phone Card to call U.S.?
My 13-year old son will be going on a tour of Italy with his grandparents at the end of June. I'd like to give him a phone card so he can call home a time or two while he's gone. Where is the best place to buy an international phone card? Anyone have any good/bad experiences with them?
Thanks! |
I think you mean where to buy at home? I usually purchase mine at a tabac stand, but this is in Paris and it works out well. I'm sure it's the same for Italy. Others can advise as to which phone cards are best to purchase at home.

have HIM buy it in italy from kiosk. about 6 euros for 4-5 HOURS chatting to USA. (no kidding).
don't waste your money on the american ones unless they have something similar. |
Where would you find a kiosk that sells these? In the airport? Six euros would be a great deal I think!

Lincasanova's suggestion is correct. Buy a telephone card over there. The last Scheda Telefonica I bought in Italy was priced in lira, 10,000 of them. I forget how much talking I got out of it. |
Just have him ask for an international phone card at a tabacchi. I used a card that I bought at Costco in the US, but my friends on the same trip bought theirs in Italy and got MANY more minutes at a much lower cost. He'll be able to phone home a zillion times for very few euro.
