Interlaken - Jungfraud
 

Hello guys,

Me and my friend are traveling to Interlaken on March 15th, and stay there for 2 days (16,17).

We're planning to go to the Jungfraud mountain, from Interlaken, we did some searching on this website: https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfr...top-of-europe/ and going to buy tickets to Jungfraud.

So can you guys give us some advice of what to do, what should we do, and what should we need to know (transportation, places, tickets,etc..) during the stay in Interlaken and Jungfraud.

Don't go there if the weather is cloudy, otherwise it really will be the Jungfraud.

Early bird specials for first trains of day are somewhat cheaper and you can stay up top as long as you like -figure a couple of hours at summit - can walk to a glacier and frolick in perpetual snow and ice. For lots on Jungfrau trains and gondolas and excursions check www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.swisstravelsystem.com.

What are the rest of your Switzerland plans? If more look at various Swiss Passes or Half-Fare Card (costs $130 or so and 1/2 off Jungfrau train almost pays for the card. Then half off everything that moves in Switzerland transportation wise.

Taking a boat ride on Lake Thun or Lake Brienz - the two lakes bookending Interlaken are great adventures- get on an off at several neat places.

The Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg Ridge Walk is an easy easy short hike that offers rave views the whole way- the most popular walk in the area- take cab cars up to Mannlichen from Grindelwald or Wengen - both accessible by train from Lauterbrunnen.

Did you get the joke in Edward's post? About "fraud"?

Jung is young, Frau is woman, a Jungfrau is what we used to call "Miss" before the term became politically incorrect. The deal in folklore is that here the Jungfrau, or Virgin, is shielded from the Eiger (Ogre) by the well-meaning Monk (Mönch).

Just so you know where' you're going...

The Jungfraujoch where you're headed is not a mountain top, not a peak, but a "Joch", meaning "saddle", the low point between two mountains. Gorgeous in good weather, and expensive.

You can buy Half-Fare Cards for your whole trip at any Swiss station and again if not having some kind of pass and taking the Jungfraujoch trains it could be a great deal. But no need to pre-buy.

Yes, buy a Half Fare ticket, you'll almost get your money back in one go when you do Jungfraujoch. True, if it's cloudy, you won't get the view but the trip up through the mountains, the view out the window at the half way stop and the attractions at the top make it a once in a lifetime experience anyway.
Schilthorn/Piz Gloria( of 007 fame )is another great experience and the mountain villages all around are a delight. Have fun!

Do the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn with Half-Fare Card would more than pay for the Half-Fare Card. And to me The Schilthorn is as awesome in its own way as the Jungfraujoch but without swarming crowds.
