We've visited the Verdon Gorge twice by car. IMO, it is much inferior to the US Grand Canyon. In France, we prefer the Gorges du Tarn and the Gorges de l'Ardeche over the Verdon Gorge.
Moustiers is quite nice.

The Grand Canyon du Verdon (that's what it's called in the Michelin Atlas Routier) is not comparable the the Grand Canyon in the U.S. as a canyon, but it is located in a more varied terrain, which is part of its appeal.

Thanks, Underhill! I finally have the answer to one of my questions. How many steps did my son and I climb going up to the chapel in Moustiers? 262. You were also the one who had recommended the lovely bed and breakfast at Chateau d'Esparron.
And Michael, your photos are terrific, as always.

The Bastide is where I stayed, my choice as my birthday present. All the tables were filled when I was there.
The bath products are exceptional. They have a boutique and a bought a few of the products to take home.
