Intercontinental/Zurich

Has anyone stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Zurich Switzerland? How was it? Is it near any points-of-interest? Is is easy to get from there to the main train station or the airport? Thanks for your input!

It´s a very confortable hotel, nice and clean rooms, very good service but a bit off the points of interest (downtown). From the train station I took a cab and to the airport I took a shuttle that is arranged for by the hotel (US$ 12-15). Anyways from the hotel you walk 300 meters to the tram station and from there you are 10 stops away from downtown.

Next time in Zurich if not on business I might consider staying somewhere near the lake.

Good luck.

Ann: Agree with the above poster. It's a large international style hotel, but very comfortable. Was recently taken over by Interconti. The hotel has an airport shuttle that runs on a regular basis.
On the same street, i.e. Badenerstrasse, close to the tram stop "Albisriederplatz" is the famous Café Stoller. You cannot miss it. Do go for an ice-cream there. It's famous all over the town, expecially now in summertime. It has a huge terrace, however a bit noisy.
Get a day-pass for the tram at the hotel. It's very convenient. Tram N° 2 takes you downtown (Paradeplatz/lake)and N° 3 to the main station.
For further info check the hotel's website:
www.interconti.com/switzerland/zurich_zuric.html

Have fun!

This link will work a little better:
http://www.interconti.com/switzerlan...tel_zuric.html

Wouldn't be my first choice of 4-star Zürich hotels necessarily, but it's a pretty good hotel. (I find the location a bit off, but it's by no means "bad" or terribly inconvenient.)

Sometimes has exceptional weekend rates that are hard to beat for such a quality property in Zürich. As low as $120 against $200-350 rack rates. May be other "deals" out there as well, owing to its location.
I agree with Ursula and Ed, it is a hotel for business, unless a company is paying for you, get nearer to the lake.I would never recommend it to tourists.

How far is the Interconti. from the lake? And is it hard to get public transportation to the sights from the Interconti?

Ursula Jul 7th, 2001 02:13 AM

To the previous poster:
Take tram Nr. 2 from "Albisriederplatz" station (the closest from the Interconti) to "Bürkliplatz" station, as said above! It will take you about 20 minutes. And yes, the "Interconti" is in an area where there is really *nothing* to see, but it is still in town, somehow. Do not worry, public transportation is quick and efficient.
Enjoy!
PS: Check out: zurichtourism.ch
for further info.
