Inter island plane tickets

Can you save money by going through a travel agent to book flights between the Greek airlines? I can book online on the Aegean website but am wondering if a Greek travel agency can save me money. Thanks

There are lots of flights between Athens and the islands, but I haven't heard of many inter-island flights. Is Aegean the name of the airline? Since the travel agents get a commission on the bookings, I don't think you will get much of a discount through them, but I could be wrong.

Okay, I looked up the Aegean website and see that they do have a limited inter-island service. My experience with flying to the islands is that it really isn't that much better than the high speed ferries. Quicker, yes, but there are fewer departures, and often at the wrong time of the day. Then you have to get a taxi out to the airport, check in, etc. Contrast that with the ferries, which are more frequent, depart from the island's main town, and all you have to do is walk on with your bags a few minutes before sailing.

How much do the ferries cost, say to Santorini or Mykonos? Thanks.

Last year a deck class ticket on a conventional ferry from Piraeus to Mykonos cost about 16 euros, and to Santorini about 20 euros. The general rule is: highspeed ferries cost twice the price, but get you there in half the time of the conventional ferries. They really are worth it, unless you are on a strict budget. Airfare to the islands is about three times the price of conventional ferries, and you will end up at a small airport that usually doesn't have bus service, so will have to pay taxi fare into town as well. I have tried all three, and prefer high speed ferries to the others, especially if you can get a morning departure.

I think I went on Olympic between islands but also took Aegean once too. There are a number of flights from Athens to the islands but more limited between islands. I flew from Santorini to Rhodes for around $90 I think. I would always prefer to fly over taking the ferries for the time savings.
