inter-Europe flights
We have never flown within Europe and would like to ask a few questions. My wife and I are planning a trip beginning late August in Greece.
For example, I am tentatively thinking of flying from Athens to Budapest on Sept 6. www.whichbudget.com directed me to SkyEurope. When I plugged in the date it gave me Sept 7. Are there in fact limited flights between the 2 cities? Or is it because the date is too far ahead and the airline(s) will open up more flights as it gets closer (especially during that time of the year)? Thanks for any input... |
SkyEurope probably does not fly that route every day. Although any airline, low-cost or not, is subject to schedule change, SkyEurope has done a lot of them, and also some route cancellations. I would fly SkyEurope if I had a good backup plan in place, or if you are willing to accept a possible schedule change that SkyEurope might make in the future. I'm just basing this on SkyEurope's previous record of changing routes and schedules.

Each airline chooses how many flights they do between two given cities, usually for economic reasons (no people enough doing a route to have their planes full everyday) :) So there are a lot of connections that are only three times a week, 6 times a week ... I mean it is not only your particular route, it's a common thing.
And yes, it's possible that they will open more flights for the summer season but I think that if they are selling now tickets for August then they have their schedules made yet. |

It's not at all uncommon for the low cost carriers to only fly certain routes on a few days a week. If the route between two cities is not that popular they may only fly it every other day, or two or three times a week. Most of the airlines seem to have their schedules up about 6 months in advance. Alot of them do change their schedule and then you have to adapt. Worse case scenario is usually that you have to stay someplace a day longer or leave a day sooner than you might like. You could try the larger carriers but they might do the same thing.

According to skyscanner.net SkyEurope will fly that route on 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, and 28 September.
