Insight into Barcelona situation?

Hi All,
I'm planning a trip to Carcassonne for next summer and I'd like to fly into Barcelona, spend a couple of days in Besalu' and then head into France. I've been keeping tabs on the situation in Barcelona through the newspapers and I've decided to skip visiting the city of Barcelona altogether because of the unrest. My question is this: is it unwise to use Barcelona as an arrival airport? I haven't read anything about the airport there being affected by strikes, etc. thus far. This airport is by far the closest international airport to Carcassonne in the region as far as I know. Does anyone have any insight?

When do you need to buy tickets?

No one really knows today how quickly the situation might be resolved or deteriorate. The upcoming days are really crucial, and right now how the most important actors in the drama will act is anybody's guess. Even if the major players know what they intend to do, no one has full control of the situation, and reactions will be as important as reactions.

If you must buy tickets for this week, suggest you bypass Barcelona because of the inability to know what comes next and what lies down the road. But otherwise, recommend you wait.

Why not fly to Toulouse if you are nervous about Barcelona?

There isn't any reason to fly into BCN if you don't plan to stay in Barcelona, I agree. Fly into Toulouse which is an international airport and much closer to Carcassonne than BCN. Heck, you could fly into Marseille and take the train to Toulouse in only 4 hrs. Although I don't know about your plans for that Besalu place.

Toulouse is the obvious answer.

Thank you. I didn't realize Toulouse was a major airport. Problem solved

I am not sure anyone can see to next summer for situations in Barcelona. It is a civilized country - they will get their act together, one way or another and the plan will be announced well before 2018. Heck, airports work and tourists fly to countries even under martial law - though that isn't the current plan for Catalonia.
Do realize the issue is 'Catalonia' - not 'Barcelona'. Besalu is in Catalonia. Strikes, protests, discord occurs in various towns and cities in Catalonia - not just Barcelona...that is the media headliner only. If you want to avoid Barcelona, then avoid Catalonia altogether, otherwise it makes no sense.

Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France with lots of business.
If you are going there, you might want to read up on it. It's the center of the European aerospace industry.

The reason the OP has not heard about any disruptions at the BCN airport might be because the airport is located well outside the city.

There may still be bus connections from there to Besalu which would allow a bypass of the city altogether. It seems a shame not to go somewhere you wanted to visit for fear of an event or events which are perhaps unlikely to take place.
