Innsbruck to Venice
 

Four adults will travel from Innsbruck to Venice for two nights, one full day, in early September. What is the best rouiting for this trip? The trip will be round trip. Is it possible to train to/from innsbruck-Venice in one long day? Can we leave esrly am and return latenight same day? Thismight be an option, but prefer two nights in Venice if trains are reasonably priced.

5.5 hours each way the quickest by train - best to stay two nights in Venice - pricing depends on how early you book - there is also an overnight train between Innsbruck and Venice - save daytime time and the cost of a hotel. Day trip practical only by flying. Easiest rail timing is going to take a little over five hours one way with a change in Verona (easy to do). Budget flights would require several changes and probably be more expensive in the end.

I would NOT do this trip in one day...forget that.

The best train is the direct 13:27 arriving 18:10, fares from €39 at Austrian Railways www.oebb.at if you pre-book.

This is a smart Austrian train with elegant restaurant car, which heads down the lovely scenic Brenner Pass. Enjoy it!

Man-in-Seat-61 is correct, IMO, if you want to leave that late in the day.

As I discovered, bahn.com offers these tickets at the lowest price, even thought the journey does not involve a German train or destination. They offer 29 euros each way.

5 hours ain't that long - after all you told folks on a Swiss thread that the 8-hour-long marathon Glacier Express was OK to do. And you could break your journey in Verona - put bags in a station locker and explore that very old historic town.

This is a very beautiful, scenic route. I wouldn't pass that up by taking a night train or flying. Definitely 2 nights (at least) in Venice.

2 nights means only one full day as the train - yes take the train and see the lovely Europe in between Innsbruck and Venice - takes several hours all told and re-locating on each end. three nights I would say would be a minimum to see the many different things here - like the remote islands like Torcello, a real sleeper, in more ways than one!
