Innsbruck- Flat or Hilly?

I know, of course, that the city is surrounded by mountains. But is the old town itself fairly flat for walking?

And, at certain points by the open field there are benches for thought and physical healing. M.

Good to see that the Mensa meeting ended early allowing some of the responders time to add to this posting.

What a gift this is to the original poster who (I assume) didn't want to whine about any current problems but needed insight into how the town was constructed.

I've only been there once. As I recall the area where you would walk around is flat with mountains outside of town to the North and South.

Thanks Mildred,
That comment had me laughing! I needed that today.

Now, back to the Mensa meeting.

The city of Innsbruck is very flat, so it's easy going for touring the town, and there are wonderful mountain villages all around. If you get a chance, try to go to a village called LANS. It is south of Innsbruck in the mountains. I was very happy to be trapped there for several days in February a few years ago, waiting for the avalanches to stop further west, so we could go up to the ski area. There had been a blizzard - which we drove thru from Holland - and were lucky to find ANY where to stay. Turned out to be 5 star. What a surprise. Wish I could remember the name of the hotel.
Enjoy your trip.
