Inishmore Island
 

We are travelling in mid-October. Will there be a taxi at the dock if we need one to take us to our B&B? I saw a B&B which looks interesting but is 10 minutes walk, and if it is raining... Thanks

Just about every car on the island is a van that is used to haul tourists around the island. I'm sure any would be happy to serve as a taxi. If you're ten minutes from the dock, be aware that you will be in the middle of nowhere. The dock area (many) and the area near the old fortress (a few) are the only areas where I remember any businesses.

Since you are familiar with Inishmore, have you been there in mid-October and what kind of weather should we expect. Thanks for the van tip. Jabird

Well I have been there in Aug but in the galway area in Oct. I live in Ireland and it starts to get chilly ion Oct and ccould have some rain so pack for it just in case. It will definately be cold at night on the Island

A 10 minute walk from the dock shouldn't put you in the middle of nowhere. Then again a 10 minute walk by Irish standards can turn out to be quite a bit longer especially if carrying luggage. None-the-less, you should be pretty close to a lot of things in Kilronan. Which B&B are you talking about?

We stayed there in May 05 for a night and it was enjoyable. As Siobhan says, you will probably get pretty cool weather. It can get pretty misty and rainy there, but when the weather is clear, it's lovely.

The van that takes you to your B&B may also offer you and perhaps others a tour of the island. One van can easily take more than two people to there B&B.

If the weather is bad, consider flying from Inverin. I presume you will be sailing from Rossaveal since the Doolin ferries quit running at the end of Sept. Winds can be a problem and the waters can be rough. If that's the case, the 10 minute flight might be a better choice. It's not much more than the ferry and if there are 4 or more, the price is very close.

I am a big fan of Flying over and yes its about 10 minutes or less. I am not great on Ferrys especially in iffy weather. We flew last time we were over there and then there is a taxi they can call to you to bring you where you need to go.
