Information changing planes in Amsterdam
Current information needed. I will be changing planes in Amsterdam. Dallas to Frankfurt. Us citizen. I will be connecting with KLM citihopper to Frankfurt. My connecting time is short, will I have to retrieve my luggage and recheck in Amsterdam?
Book your luggage through to Frankfurt.
Concur with spaarne. AMS is a very convenient airport to connect. Just make sure your bags are checked to FRA.
No if you're luggage is checked through; however although it shouldn't be a big deal, you will go through passport control at Amsterdam as that is your entry point into a Schengen country...upon arrival in Frankfurt, no passport control.
As they say you should be able to check your luggage through, but will go through passport control at Ams. There can be a queue for passport control but it shouldn't be too bad.
Assuming it is all on one ticket you will have a legal transfer time which means it is possible to do the transfer in theory at least. Amsterdam is in the Netherlands btw not Belgium ;). |
I don't know what you consider a short connection time, but if you are worried about making your connection when you actually land, ask for help. I have seen passengers being brought to the head of the queue for passport control by airline or airport staff.
Thank you for your replies. The more informations I have gives me peace of mind.

I flew into Amsterdam from the US on Oct. 4 and we zipped through Passport Control in no time. But I concur with Zeppole - if time is short, ask for help. Everybody in Amsterdam is very nice and virtually all of them speak English.
My last transfer in AMS was scheduled at a little over an hour. That would have been plenty of time except that my flight from London was nearly an hour late. It was a panic buying my Dutch cigars and genever in duty free.
