Info on Wiltshire
Going to Wiltshire soon; I'd welcome any tips on things to do and see during my stay. Also I'm staying in Malborough and would love it if someone could tell me if that's a good base for sightseeing. Merci!!

Marlborough is a fine base. Interesting Market town. A few things to see nearby -- Avebury, West Kennet longbarrow, devil's den, Lacock village and Abbey, Stourhead, Longleat, Bath, Stonehenge, Salisbury, Winchester and lots more.
|
Don't forget Wells, Glastonbury, and Bradford-on-Avon. What a terrific area.
|
I believe Ragley Hall is in Wiltshire, or close, and well worth the trip.
|
I'm afraid Karen is mistaken. Ragley Hall is not in or near Wiltshire. It is up north near Alcester which is between Stratford and Worcester.
|
And also - Malmesbury, the oldest borough in England with it's fine Norman abbey, Castle Combe where the film Doctor Doolittle was made and Bowood House - lots to see and do in Wiltshire and some very good pub grub too!
Enjoy your trip.
Regards
Maggie.

For places to eat try Coles, 27 Kingsbury Street in Marlborough, or the Red Lion pub which is 3 miles east of Marlborough between Mildenhall and Ramsbury.

If you have time you can rent bicycles in Bradford-on-Avon and ride along the Kennet-Avon Canal. You can ride through some parks and over an aqueduct. If you stay on the path beside the canal long enough you will end up in Bath. The bicycle rental is near where Frome Road crosses the canal.
