Info on these Roman Hotels?
 

I was wondering if anyone has stayed at any of these hotels? <BR>We will need a hotel in Rome, to stay in for a few nights before our apartment is available for us and before we return home at the end of our trip. <BR>The hotels are ; <BR>Portoghesi, <BR>Due Torri, <BR>Teatro di Pompeii, <BR>Campo dei Fiori, <BR>Del Senato, <BR>Torre Argentino, <BR>Regno, <BR>These are all in the Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona part of the city. <BR>Thanks for any experiences you might want to share. <BR>Nancy

We just visited Rome (first half of May) and stayed in Tetro di Pompeo for 5 days and Portoghesi for one. Teatro di Pompeo is very nice - excellent location. Well furnished, decent sized rooms. Breakfast was especially nice - both fare and the setting in the stone vaults. All in all a good place. Portoghesi is almost as well located and looked nice. We personally had a bad experience wheer inspite of advance confirmed reservastions for a double room, we were bumped to a small single room with a makeshift extra bed. The worst part was the way the handled our complaints - first they said "take it or leave it" and then wanted to bargain with us. When we refused, they ended up making an unauthorized charge on our credit cards. I would not go there again.

I stayed in the Hote Due torri last year and loved it. It is on a quiet street and has a lot of charm. The room are simple but decorated with antique stye furniture and the baths are modern and clean. All the rooms have shuttered windows. The staff is wonderful and friendly and most all speak English. They offer a simple continental breakfast with your room rate. The location is VERY central and within good walking distance of everything! <BR> <BR>I would recommend it over all of the others. Nancy, I forgot two things. See my previous post ALL ABOUT ROME for more info. Also avoid the Portoghesi. I think its a shady place and think they have a habit of taking peoples money for things such as cancellations and overbookings.

The Teatro di Pompeo and Hote Due Torri both sound like good options - does anyone have room rates (in Lira prefereably) and contact details for them? I tried a web search but didn't find either. <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR> <BR>Caitlin

I think I am the poster child for the Due Torri. The Due Torri doesn't have a websight but you can get a peek at Hotelbooks websight. But don't reserve with hotelbook! They are more expansive. I haven't stayed at the mentioned hotels, but recently returned from Rome, where my family stayed four nites at the Hotel San Carlo on the via della Carrozze near the Spanish Steps. I recommend it wholeheartledy: the price was reasonable considering its location, the staff was pleasant and the rooms attractive. We were on the top floor, which might prove difficult for some, since there appeared to be no elevator. However, we had our own large terrazzo, and I believe several of the rooms have smaller versions. The air conditioning was not up to the usual American standards (ie. frigid), but again, that problem would probably be solved by staying on a lower floor. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps!

There are a couple of pictures of the Teatro di Pompeo at <BR>http://www.romeguide.it/teatrodipompeo/hotel.html <BR> <BR>Owing to its very small size, bookings are quite difficult and you shouldn't be surprised if you don't get an answer to your fax inquiry (too many inquiries for too few rooms). To square things out you should better call (+39 06 6830 0170). Appart from this nuisance, the Teatro di Pompeo is our preferred 3-star in Rome. I would guess that rates for a double should run approx Lit 360,000 this year. <BR> <BR>Paulo <BR>

If anyone is interested, the San Carlo ws 350,000 a night for the four of us. It is on the web and can be reached via email; however, the photos don't look a bit like it!!! It was actually far more attractive than the photos which must be at least a few years out of date.

We stayed at Hotel Campo dei Fiori last year. It was a very nice hotel with a great rooftop deck. Management was excellent. There were two things that were a problem: 1) rooms are very small 2) Noise - late night gatherings of young people outside the hotel.

Have you tried Hotel Arenula? They are near the old Jewish Ghetto, convenient to Piazza Navona, etc. We haven't stayed there but have heard they are nice and very reasonable; offered us a play to stay (after we had already confirmed) for about 220,000 lire for four!!!

I just returned from Italy, including Rome. <BR>We did not stay at the Teatro di Pompeo (no rooms available when we called), however it had been highly recommended to me by a friend. <BR>We did have dinner one night nearby in the Campo di Fiori (sorry I don't remember the name of the restaurant, as it was good), and the neighborhood seemed very well situated for getting around and seeing sights. <BR>If you end up at Teatro di Pompeo, you may want to know that the Campo <BR>di Fiori is quite a busy night spot, especially a lot of young people hanging out. It is very lively, and that may be fun; however, you may want to ensure that your room is noise-proofed! <BR>We stayed at the Hotel Portoghesi and it was very nice. Sounds like others have had bad experiences there, but I guess we were lucky, as all worked out very well and the staff were helpful. The rooms are small, I admit; but we did not spend a lot of time in them (and I was so tired from sightseeing that all I wanted to do was flop down on the bed!). Anyway, the rooms and public areas are well appointed, perhaps recently redone, very neat and clean. The idea of breakfast on the roof garden was a selling feature for us (!) even though the hotel was the most expensive we stayed in (at L310,000). The location was very good for getting around, and especially the day we walked to the Vatican. <BR>Hope you have a wonderful time in Italy!
